The flatiron-shaped Culver Hotel, opened in 1924, anchors downtown Culver City; the actors who played the Munchkins stayed there during filming in 1938. Nearby, the Helms Bakery building, which supplied bread to the 1932 Olympic Games, has been converted to furniture showrooms and restaurants. A staircase of 282 steps climbs the Baldwin Hills overlook on the edge of town.
